City pool closes for roof construction
Fredericton Indoor Pool had been subject to morning closures, but municipality moves to full shutdown to “accelerate” project; city's move comes on heels of UNB facility closure
The Fredericton Indoor Pool had been closed to swimmers for parts of the day recently for a construction project, but the City of Fredericton has opted to move to a full closure to speed things up.
“To accelerate the completion of the roof construction, the Fredericton Indoor Pool will be closed until the project is complete,” the city’s recreation and culture division posted on social media.

It said it would have a further update in the days ahead.
The city previously announced on Sept. 23 that the pool would be closed from 8 a.m. to noon on weekdays to facilitate the roof project.
However, on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, the recreation and culture division announced unexpected closures of the pool each of those afternoons “due to unexpected circumstances beyond our control.”
On Friday, the city indicated the move to a full closure was to ensure safety of staff and patrons.
“We understand and share your frustrations with this situation; please know that we are working diligently to resolve it as soon as possible,” the recreation division stated Friday.
The partial and now full closure of the Fredericton Indoor Pool comes in the wake of the closure of the Sir Max Aitken Pool on the University of New Brunswick’s Fredericton campus last month, further limited pool options for swimmers and athletes.
UNB didn’t indicate why it was shutting down its pool or when it might reopen.
