The City of Fredericton admitted Monday to being responsible for a lapse in safety precautions at a compost facility after a worker got pinned in a hydraulic machine in 2024.

WorkSafeNB, the province’s workplace-safety watchdog agency, laid two charges against the municipality under the Occupational Health and Safety Act earlier this year.

Those counts alleged failures on the city’s part to ensure a machine was cleaned in accordance with manufacturer specifications and to provide instruction necessary to ensure an employee’s health and safety Aug. 15, 2024.
