Child-porn possession leads to jail
Judge sentences Tommie McGinley, 34, of Minto, to incarceration, denying defence request for conditional sentence of house arrest; toddlers among victims depicted in images, videos
A Minto man found in possession of child pornography sought a conditional sentence to be served in the community because he has learning and intellectual challenges that made him vulnerable.
But a judge rejected the defence’s argument, ruling that a stint behind bars was necessary to send the proper message to denounce his crimes and deter him and others from committing such offences in the future.
Tommie McGinley, 34, of Bridge Street in Minto, was back in Fredericton provincial court Thursday to hear Judge Pierre Gionet’s decision on sentence in his case.
The offender pleaded guilty last fall to possessing child pornography May 22, 2024.
