Capital sex-abuse case headed to trial
Jagdeep Singh Sidhu, 27, of Rothesay, elects to be tried in King’s Bench by judge alone
A Rothesay man accused of sexually abusing a minor in Fredericton last year opted Friday to be tried in superior court on the charges.
Jagdeep Singh Sidhu, 27, of Sierra Avenue, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Friday to answer to indictable charges alleging he sexually assaulted a minor and touched that person for a sexual purpose between Oct. 1 and 24, 2024, in Fredericton.

There’s a court-ordered publication ban in effect protecting the identity of the young complainant.
Appearing by telephone for Friday’s proceeding was defence lawyer Dustin Caissie, who said his client was electing to be tried in the Court of King’s Bench by judge alone, without a jury.
