Capital mayoralty vote is two-way race
Following longtime city councillor Steve Hicks’ declaration last month, former Fredericton MP Jenica Atwin announces she’s also running for mayor's chair in May municipal election
The May 11 vote to determine Fredericton’s next mayor turned into a two-way race Tuesday.

Jenica Atwin, the former Fredericton MP, first with the Green Party before she crossed the floor to join Justin Trudeau’s Liberals in June 2021, announced Tuesday she’s running to be mayor of Fredericton.
Her announcement comes a little more than a month after Steve Hicks - the longtime city councillor for Ward 5, the Marysville area of the capital - declared his intention to run for mayor.
Kate Rogers, who’s currently the city’s mayor, announced last month she wouldn’t be reoffering this spring.
Atwin left federal politics last year after deciding not to run again federally.
