Body pulled from river - cops
Fredericton police say middle-aged woman’s remains were recovered Thursday afternoon
A woman’s body was pulled from the St. John River late Thursday afternoon, police report, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine her cause of death.
In a news release issued Friday afternoon, the Fredericton Police Force stated that officers were called to the north side of the river the day before after a grisly discovery was made.
“On Oct. 23, 2025, shortly before 5 p.m., the Fredericton Police Force attended the area near the Westmorland Street Bridge, on Devonshire Drive, following the discovery of an unresponsive person in the water,” the release said.
“The individual, a middle-aged woman, was confirmed deceased at the scene.”
An investigation is underway, the force said, but it isn’t being treated as a homicide thus far.
“At this stage, there is no evidence to indicate foul play,” the release said, noting that an autopsy is being carried out to determine the woman’s exact cause of death.
Anyone with information that could further the investigation is urged to call the Fredericton Police Force at 506-460-2300.
