A Waasis man awaiting trial on break-in and theft charges is facing new counts, and after ranting about conspiracies and making outlandish demands in court Thursday, he was remanded for a psychiatric assessment.

Carl Robert Ellis, 56, of Cass Drive, was released on Crown consent on conditions this summer after being charged with theft of merchandise from Scholten’s on Riverside Drive, an assault on a Fredericton police officer and resisting arrest Feb. 14; and with breaking into Ellis Electric on Rowan Street on April 29.

He denied those charges last month, and his trials were scheduled for Nov. 17, 2026.

However, Ellis was back before Fredericton provincial court Thursday - this time in custody - facing new charges.
