Months after he allegedly opened fire on Mounties at a Bilijk (Kingsclear) First Nation home, a defendant finally went through a bail hearing, but a judge denied his quest for conditional release.

Michael Christopher Sabattis, 34, of Tomahawk Street, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by video-conference from the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre on Thursday for a bail hearing, which had been rescheduled at his request several times.

He faces 15 counts of attempted murder of various RCMP officers; as well as 15 counts of discharging a firearm with the intent to wound, maim or otherwise endanger those same officers; one count of aggravated assault on Brian Sabattis by wounding him or endangering his life; an assault on Tammy Sabattis; and threats to RCMP officers to cause them death and/or bodily harm.
