Assault suspect’s psych report unclear
Liban Ali Ahmed-Shardi, 31, of no fixed address, had been ordered to undergo assessment to determine possible exemption from criminal responsibility for liquor-store assault charge
A Fredericton judge referred an assault suspect’s case back to a forensic psychiatrist Monday after finding the doctor’s report failed to disclose a clear conclusion about the accused’s mental state.
The Fredericton Police Force charged Liban Ali Ahmed-Shardi, 31, of no fixed address, last month with two counts of assault with a weapon, stemming from a violent incident at the NB Liquor location in the York Street Train Station downtown.
The police force reported last month that officers were dispatched to that location shortly after 7 p.m. June 7 when they received a call about a weapons complaint.

“A patron caused a disturbance and subsequently assaulted two staff members with a weapon,” a police spokesperson said last month.
“Two victims were taken to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital for treatment.”
