Carman Ave. fire under investigation
Firefighters responded to second apartment-building fire of day in Barker’s Point neighbourhood Wednesday night, but they said blaze was contained within couple of hours
Less than 24 hours after three fire departments fought a major apartment-building blaze on the north side of Fredericton, firefighters were on the scene of another fire the same night at another apartment building.

The Fredericton Fire Fighters’ Association, the union representing the city’s firefighters, issued an alert through social media Wednesday night at 9:45 p.m. about another blaze.
“Your Fredericton firefighters are on scene of their second structure fire within 24 hours on Carman Avenue,” it stated.
“Please avoid the area to allow crews to safely work.”
A couple of hours later, the city fire department reported things were in hand but that investigators were delving into what started the blaze.
“The incident is contained. The cause of the fire is under investigation,” it posted on Facebook at 11:41 p.m. Wednesday.
Wednesday night’s emergency comes about 19 hours after the Fredericton Fire Department and Fredericton Police Force responded to a major structure fire at a four-storey apartment building on Bowlen Street, in the Devon area of the city’s north side.
All tenants of the building were safely evacuated, but the structure sustained extensive damage that could lead to it being a total loss.
In an update Thursday morning, the association reported the Wednesday night blaze was at an apartment building as well, though the provided photo made it clear it was a much smaller one than the one on Bowlen Street.
“Yesterday evening, Fredericton fire crews responded to a second structure fire within a 24-hour period on Carman Avenue,” the firefighters’ union said on social media Thursday.
“All city crews were dispatched and worked quickly to control the incident. One unit sustained heavy damage, while the remainder of the structure was limited to water damage.”
