Accused has counsel for sex-assault retrial

A former taxi driver accused of sexually assaulting a fare in his cab and exposing himself to her almost four years ago now has a new lawyer to represent him on his second time through the courts.
Akram Al Khalifa, 39, of Hawkins Street in Fredericton, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Tuesday, scheduled to enter pleas to March 12, 2022, counts of sexually assaulting a woman and exposing his penis to her in the capital.
The defendant was accompanied by Fredericton lawyer Shane Hill. He said he was appearing as an agent for Al Khalifa’s new defence counsel, Emily Cochrane.
