Accused admits to charity-store break-in

A Nackawic-area man admitted Monday to breaking into a northside store operated by a housing charity, as well as to a rural residential burglary, both committed last month.

Austin Barrett-Soucy, 26, of Campbell Settlement Road in Hartfield, near Nackawic and about 70 kilometres west of Fredericton, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre on Monday, scheduled to elect mode of trial and enter pleas.

He’s charged by the Fredericton Police Force with breaking and entering at Habitat for Humanity Restore on St. Mary’s Street on Oct. 4; and by the RCMP with breaking into a home on Route 102 in Dumfries, possessing break-in instruments, possessing methamphetamine and breaching a judicial release order, all between Oct. 8 and 9.
