4½ years imposed for sexual assault
Prison term merited for Rodi Hasan, 27, of Fredericton, because he ignored victim’s tears and pleas to stop as he continued to force her to have sex with him one night in Sept. 2024
A Turkish immigrant’s hope for a community-based sentence for sexual assault so as to avoid potential deportation was dash Wednesday as a judge ruled his crimes required time behind bars.
Rodi Hasan, 27, of Woodstock Road, was found guilty after trial late last year of sexual assault and forcible entry, which he perpetrated at a woman’s northside apartment Sept. 11, 2024.

He was back in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday to hear Judge Mélanie Poirier LeBlanc’s decision on his sentence.
The prosecution had previously recommended a five-year prison sentence, while the defence argued for a conditional sentence of two years less a day, to be served in the community.
